Finally got my P30L back from Langdon Tactical with their proprietary RDO/Holsun mounting plate (had them do a trigger job and replace the hammer spring since they were going to have it there anyway).
The Optic Plate job includes replacing the beautiful, easy-to-use monster sights with flat black aboninations; so I mounted the optic and proceeded to wander all over my dry fire wall trying to find the dot to put on the target.
Not quite as maddening as learning to play the bodhran, but close.

I was starting to consider etching out replacement circles onto the new iron sights to match the old Amish sights so I could use that to get initial aim into the ballpark and then use the optic dot to finish the job.
But tonight I hit some kind of breakthrough; not sure what or how, but I'll take it. Not competition grade results, to be sure, but my attacker is certainly having a bad day:
