In competition, a compensator is useful to aid in precision target re-aquisition.
However, it adds length to the sidearm.
I'm curious what anyone's thoughts are about how much of a difference that makes in a typical defensive gun use scenario.
Longer draw adds time and the need for care to an already time-constrained and potentially dangerous activity. But it might be worth it if recoil control makes it possible to start cutting into that "order of magnitude" disadvantage when there are multiple attackers... or if the attacker just won't go down.
Not having been in such a scenario myself, I turn to the community for thoughts and experiences on the matter.
