Sure seems like the cop got in an ego battle that didn't need to happen.
I know I'm not an ASP staff member but I wanted to share a little bit of how I see this. It appears from the start that there is some kind of domestic issue resulting in a restraining order violation. If that is the case the officer needs to make contact and discuss it. He was met with instant resistance from perception that was not reality but perceived reality from "Pete". There are a lot of situations that the perception of reality is not actual reality but to them it is real and that needs to be heard and accepted.
The threats made by the officer I think were not timely in my opinion and I think that it was way to soon. Threats just escalate the situation and in my opinion if you're going to do it just do it. Approaching when he was reaching in his pockets and not knowing what is there was very dangerous. Telling him to take his hands out of his pockets was incredibly dangerous. When hands are in the pockets leave them there. I do think and Mike and John can correct me if I am wrong but I think they could have tased him sooner instead of just going hands on.
But, ultimately the suspicion of "Pete" being armed was correct and distance should have been applied 1 officer with a tazer and 1 with lethal cover. I do think the tactics and communication could have been done better but ultimately I don't think it likely would have ended differently.
