James Reeves recently put up a video about Gun Accessories causing legal issues (John and company have been good about telling folks not to put stupid dust covers on defensive weapons, see the Daniel Shaver shooting) but raised something I hadn't thought about: NFA items (suppressors, SBRs) having pretty stiff sentences (30 years and 10 years, respectively) if "used in the commission of a crime." I currently run a suppressed AR-15 as my HD carbine and while I probably won't make any changes, it's definitely given me something to think about. I've also seen John recommend a shotgun for HD for multiple reasons, one of them being because of the possible dim view activist prosecutors and juries may have of the AR-15.
Additionally, I think this makes the newer line of "carry cans" for 9mm handguns an absolute no-go. I generally lean against compensators and suppressors on handguns for self-defense because of reliability issues but the possibility of having +30 years of Federal time tacked onto a manslaughter or Murder 2 charge immediately rules them out for me. Thoughts?
