I recently discovered ACE and, after a bit of research(lots of YouTube videos), decided to go all in. I live far enough from an actual range that, between that distance and my work hours, I am lucky to get there once a month. And due to range restrictions—no rapid fire, no headshots on paper targets, for instance—there are limitations to what I can actually practice.
I purchased the ACE product and subscription as well as the proprietary controller, which is a cross between the grip of a Sig P320 and the muzzle of a Springfield Echelon. I already had a Meta Quest 3 VR headset(Quest 2 will also work). Anyway, I find it fascinating. Even though it is geared primarily to simulate USPSA competitive shooting matches, there are more than a few more traditional range activities and target setups that accommodate more traditional training for self-protective purposes. They are constantly improving and adding to the various activities, and I hope they will focus more on the training scenarios I seek.
The handgun controller(inside of which one of the Quest controllers is inserted) is weighted. It actually weighs more than my Walther PDP F 3.5-inch fully loaded. Also, the trigger pull is right at 4 lbs, and there is actually a wall and break in the trigger action. I'm curious if anyone else here has any experience with the ACE system. They have contracts with a variety of gun and optic manufacturers. My Holosun 507C is even available in the sim.
It would also be interesting if you guys and the gals at Active Self-Protection did a write-up and review. I have used the Mantis dry fire system in the past, but I find the ACE VR trainer(I'm not calling it a game) to be more interactive, motivating, and useful for basic hand/eye and target acquisition skills within the real(VR) world.
