After watching a lot of the ASP video's, and the references to having a 1.5 second draw to first shot on target, it occured to me that I don't know what the best distance is to train myself to that level of proficiency. Is there a recommended distance? I just started using the laser academy system and am getting a better idea of my performance (compared to what I thought I knew as an experienced military marksman on both handgun and rifle). I'm finding that my draw to first hit is pitifully slow...2.54 is my best so far and that is from a strong side draw, but I've been doing that from 10-yds. Does distance matter that much? I'm thinking it would affect the accuracy of the first shot, so closer seems better. What is the opinion/recommendation of my experienced, trained fellow carriers?

The gold standard is 7 yards. I would start at 3 or 5 and work out to 7 from there.

Thank you, John. I've also heard you reference the availability of training videos to that end available for ASP Unlimited subscribers. Is there a specific title I should use when searching for that?
Yes, search "Evidence Based Pistol Skills" and the whole class is here! :) Day 1 will get you under 1.5 all day.
